Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) Solution Failures and Potential Fixes

Earlier this month The Rand Corporation published a report entitled, What It Will Take To Achieve The As-Yet-Unfulfilled Promises Of Health Information Technology. As a recent New York Times article points out, it was a Rand Corporation report published in 2005 that helped fuel the EHR solutions juggernaut by offering a too rosy prediction that $81 billion in annual savings were to be had with rapid adoption of health IT. In the intervening years, healthcare costs have continued to escalate thanks, in part, to missed opportunities and flawed policies surrounding the deployment, use and funding for EHRs.
