Cloud Innovators Create a Body and Soul for Big Data

“It’s alive! It’s alive!” Thus spoke Dr. Henry Frankenstein of his creation in the iconic horror film classic from 1931, as does the main character in Mel Brooks’ 1974 comedy Young Frankenstein. It’s Alive is also the title of a little known 1974 B horror movie about a murderous infant. Can the same be said of computers or the data and information that inhabits them? Big Data, loosely defined as the sum of all electronic data and information, accompanied by advances in Cloud computing, chip fabrication, natural language processing and machine learning are all in the process of transforming the utility of computing and challenging man’s traditional view of what constitutes “life” as we know it. Legal Tech Memo 2014: Driving Efficiencies and Mitigating Risk in the Era of Big Data

Now that the Information Governance message has finally gotten through to most every CIO and General Council, not to mention the vendor community, what’s next? Services and technology solutions that can be leveraged across the enterprise by a variety of data stakeholders is a much more logical and cost effective approach for today’s business climate than deploying point solutions that meet only departmental needs. A risk-based approach to managing Big Data assets throughout the enterprise – including customer and partner facing data – is not only a good idea, an organization’s survival may depend on it.
